Retail Council of Canada (RCC) has been the Voice of Retail in Canada since 1963. We speak for an industry that touches the daily lives of Canadians in every corner of the country — by providing jobs, career opportunities, and by investing in the communities we serve. RCC is a not-for-profit, industry-funded association representing more than 45,000 store fronts of all retail formats across Canada, including department, specialty, discount, and independent stores, and online merchants. RCC is a strong advocate for retailing in Canada and works with all levels of government and other stakeholders to support employment growth and career opportunities in retail, to promote and sustain retail investments in communities from coast-to-coast, and to enhance consumer choice and industry competitiveness. The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) encourages, at all levels of federal, state and local government, a rational and humane criminal justice policy for America -- one that promotes fairness for all; due process for even the least among us who may be accused of wrongdoing; compassion for witnesses and victims of crime; and just punishment for the guilty. Such a policy respects cherished civil rights and liberties that are fundamental to our democracy. Citizens have a right to expect privacy in their homes, vehicles, and communications; a right not to be deprived of their liberty or property without due process of law; and a right to consult counsel of their choice without it being used against them. America fought for and declared its independence to preserve these rights, and our Founding Fathers inscribed them into the Constitution. But the past decade`s much-heralded "War on Drugs" and crackdown on crime has become a war on ourselves. It has run roughshod over these and other essential rights that citizens across the nation hold dear. Equally important, a rational and humane crime policy must focus on the social and economic benefits of crime prevention -- through education, economic opportunity, and rehabilitation of former offenders. As a society, we need to eschew such simplistic, expensive, and ineffective "solutions" as inflexible mandatory sentencing, undue restriction of meritorious appeals, punishment of children as adults, and the erosion of the constitutional rights of all Americans because of the transgressions of a few. NACDL`s values reflect the Association`s abiding mission to ensure justice and due process for all.
HBI is a national leader for career training in the building industry. It prepares students with the skills and experience they need for successful careers through pre-apprenticeship training, job placement services, mentoring, certification programs, textbooks and curricula. With an 80 percent job placement rate for graduates, HBI training programs are taught in local communities across the country to youth, veterans, ex-offenders, displaced workers and other underserved populations. HBI training programs do more than just provide job skills; they build character and self-esteem, providing students with the interpersonal skills they need to succeed on the job and in life. This gives graduates a solid foundation for becoming valuable members of their communities and responsible citizens. HBI helps national, state and local policymakers understand the importance of creating a skilled workforce for the building industry and assists state and federal agencies, local workforce investment boards and home builder associations further their goals by providing workers with valuable job skills that match local workforce needs. It partners with the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) on various workforce development initiatives.
