The story of Sunrise began with a cornerstone ceremony held in fall of 1960. Known then as the Martin Luther Home, we were a nonprofit organization founded to provide "specialized housing" to seniors and physically challenged individuals. Business and church leaders sought community-wide support - receiving especially strong backing from the area`s Lutheran churches. These visionaries established Sunrise on a sprawling hill with room to grow. And grow it did! Senior nursing care was soon added, and the facility was renamed Sunrise Manor. Over the years, services steadily expanded. Sunrise Manor strategically evolved into Sunrise Retirement Community - a nonprofit, comprehensive residential living community that provided a variety of senior living choices for members of the Siouxland community. The independent cottages of Sunrise Hills were built. Assisted living options were introduced. Innovative memory care centers we introduced, as Sunrise was a pioneer in memory care. Single homes were developed. Most recently, Sunrise unveiled The Pointe at Sunrise - a 62-home apartment neighborhood that is the first of its kind in eastern Sioux City. On June 28, 2012, Sunrise moved their residents and belongings into a new state-of-the-art health center for nursing and assisted living, replacing the old "Manor" which served Siouxland seniors for over 50 years.

The Oberkotter Foundation is helping families ensure their children who are deaf or hard of hearing have opportunities to reach their full potential through listening and spoken language. Vision: Early learning is critical to a child`s language development and lifetime success, and children who are deaf or hard of hearing will have the same opportunities as their hearing peers to capitalize on the critical early period for brain development. Quality pediatric audiology and listening and spoken language (LSL) intervention will be available and affordable for all families as close as possible to their baby`s birth or acquired hearing loss, and families will be empowered and equipped to effectively support their baby`s learning, language and literacy development.
The Iowa League of Cities serves as the unified voice of cities, providing advocacy, training and guidance to strengthen Iowa`s communities. The Iowa League of Cities has been serving as a key resource for municipalities since 1898, when a small group of city officials gathered in Marshalltown to exchange ideas on how to strengthen and improve local government in Iowa. Those officials had a vision. They recognized that by joining together as one voice, all cities would benefit – then and in the future. More than 870 of the cities in Iowa, both large and small, are members. The League is governed by members through an Executive Board of officials, balanced by geographic region and city size. The League`s affiliated programs offer health, workers` compensation, liability and casualty coverage as well as a prosperous, liquid asset investment program. Other programs assist cities in developing services to better serve their citizens. The League keeps cities informed with a constantly updated slate of workshops and publications. The League provides education and training for elected and appointed city officials through workshops, publications, the Web and personal interactions.
