The City of Capitola sits on the shores of the Pacific Ocean along Monterey Bay. Located just 35 miles southwest of San Jose and less than two hours’ drive from San Francisco, “Camp Capitola” began as a popular beachfront tourist destination. Today the City maintains those roots and has added a vibrant commercial district and several distinct residential neighborhoods. Nearly 10,000 people call Capitola home, and countless more visit to enjoy both its natural beauty and other attractions. Capitola Village faces a wide beach, with a breathtaking view of Monterey Bay adjacent to the mouth of Soquel Creek. The Village has welcomed visitors for nearly 150 years and is home to numerous boutiques, galleries, and restaurants. Concerts fill Esplanade Park and the beach with music throughout the summer. Each Labor Day weekend, the Begonia Festival brings flower-draped floats to the creek and a sand castle contest to the beach, along with other family-friendly activities. Each fall the Village also hosts the Capitola Art & Wine Festival, which features more than 200 artists and nearly two dozen area wineries. The wharf and Capitola Historical Museum offer year-round diversions. On the opposite side of the creek from the Village, the City has a public library, several well-used parks and established neighborhoods. Further west, the commercial district along 41st Avenue is home to the only indoor mall in Santa Cruz County and more shopping, hotels, and dining.

On June 11, 1938, the Atlanta Housing Authority (AHA) was the first-ever public housing authority established in the U.S. when the City of Atlanta passed a resolution declaring the need for safe, affordable housing for families facing financial difficulty. Under Georgia law, we are commissioned to develop, acquire, lease and operate affordable housing for low-income people and families. We are a leader in transforming public housing and providing affordable communities for families, seniors and the disabled. In 1996, AHA spearheaded the model for mixed-income, mixed-use communities where residents can thrive in quality, healthy living environments and advance to self-sufficiency. AHA is the largest housing agency in Georgia and one of the largest in the nation. We are a real estate development company that serves nearly 50,000 people, including families in 16 mixed-income communities, 13 residential properties (11 senior high-rise buildings and two family communities) and AHA`s Housing Choice Voucher Program participants. The Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) is the institutional centerpiece of California`s broad anti-discrimination and hate crimes policy. Born out of a decades-long struggle to prohibit discrimination in employment, housing, and business establishments, the DFEH has been at the forefront of protecting civil rights in California since its inception. Today, the DFEH is the largest state civil rights agency in the country. The mission of the DFEH is to protect the people of California from unlawful discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodations (businesses) and from hate violence and human trafficking in accordance with the Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), Unruh Civil Rights Act, Disabled Persons Act, and Ralph Civil Rights Act. The employment antidiscrimination provisions of the FEHA apply to public and private employers, labor organizations and employment agencies. “Housing providers” includes public and private owners, real estate agents and brokers, banks, mortgage companies, and financial institutions. The state`s various civil rights laws empower DFEH to: • Engage in public outreach and provide training and technical assistance to stakeholders, such as employers and employees, business establishments and consumer groups, and housing providers and tenants regarding their rights and responsibilities under the law • Investigate and bring complaints of individual and systemic discrimination • Facilitate mediation and resolution of disputes involving civil rights • Enforce the laws by prosecuting violations in civil court Since 2013, the Department has housed the Fair Employment and Housing Council (FEH Council), a body that issues regulations to ensure that the FEHA and other laws enforced by the Department are interpreted and implemented in a way that is fair and that protects the public to the full extent of the law.
The people of Abilene are dedicated to the principle of local self-government, under law, as interpreted by the light of reason, and have established a municipal government capable of efficiently translating the wishes of the voters into effective administration as promptly and economically as possible. The first Abilene Charter went into effect in 1911. Abilene is a home rule city. It has all powers granted to home rule cities by the constitution and laws of Texas. The municipal government provided by the City Charter is known as Council-Manager Government. All powers of the City are vested in an elected City Council, which enacts legislation, adopts budgets, and determines policies. The City Council consists of six Council members and a Mayor, all of whom are elected at large. Each Council member serves for a term of three years. Terms for the City Council are on a three year staggered basis such that two Council members are elected each year. The Mayor and each Council member receive a salary of one dollar per year for each year he or she serves as Mayor or Council member. The Mayor appoints the City Manager, the City Secretary, the City Attorney, and the Judge of Municipal Court with the approval of the Council. The City Manager is the chief administrative officer of the City who executes the laws and administers the government of the City.
