The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens is the largest fine arts museum in Northeast Florida. The Cummer was established in 1958, when art collector, garden enthusiast, and civic leader Ninah Cummer bequeathed her art collection and riverfront home, which she owned with her husband Arthur, to create a museum. Today, the core collection of 60 pieces from Mrs. Cummer`s estate has grown to include 5,000 works of art. Founded in 1951, the Birmingham Museum of Art is the largest municipal museum in the Southeast and one of the finest regional museums in the United States. It houses a nationally recognized collection of over 22,000 works of art dating from ancient to modern times and features paintings, drawings, textiles, and decorative arts from many diverse cultures including European, American, Asian, African, Pre-Columbian, and Native American art.
