About the Person

Mr. Christopher J. Meade, also known as Chris has been Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel of BlackRock, Inc. since November 22, 2016 and 2015 respectively. Mr. Meade leads the Legal & Compliance group. Prior to, he served as the General Counsel of the U.S. Department of the Treasury. At Treasury, he provided legal and policy counseling to the Treasury Secretary and other senior Treasury officials on a wide range of issues, relating to domestic finance, international economic affairs, terrorism finance, financial crimes enforcement and tax policy. He served as the Head of The Treasury Legal Division, a separate bureau within Treasury that includes all legal counsel of the Treasury Department. Prior to Treasury, he served as a Partner with the law firm of Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr, where he was a member of the Litigation and Securities Departments, as well as the Appellate and Supreme Court Litigation Group. While at WilmerHale, he argued four cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. Earlier in his career, he served as a law clerk to Justice John Paul Stevens on the U.S. Supreme Court and Judge Harry T. Edwards of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. Mr. Meade is a member of the Board of NYU Law School and the Partnership for Children’s Rights. Mr. Meade received the Alexander Hamilton Award, the Treasury Department’s highest honor. He received his A.B. from Princeton University, magna cum laude and his J.D. from NYU Law School, magna cum laude, where he was the Editor-and-Chief of the Law Review.
