Gulf Winds Federal Credit Union, formerly Chemstrand Employees Credit Union and Monsanto Employees Credit Union, was organized April 9, 1954. The credit union is directed by a volunteer Board of Directors presently composed of 13 members. The Board of Directors, elected by the general membership, appoints a Supervisory Committee of four individuals who watch over the financial soundness of the credit union.
A credit union`s operating philosophy is different from a bank`s. Banks are closely held corporations that exist to make money for their stockholders. Credit unions, on the other hand, are financial cooperatives, owned entirely by their members. Our goal is not to create profit but to provide the best possible financial services at the lowest possible costs. After paying our operating expenses, we return our "profit" to the members in the form of lower loan rates and higher savings yields.
