The California Labor & Workforce Development Agency was created in 2002, and is the first cabinet-level agency to coordinate workforce programs. The Agency oversees seven major departments, boards and panels that serve California workers and businesses by improving access to employment and training programs, enforcing California labor laws to protect workers and create an even playing field for employers, and administering benefits that include workers` compensation, unemployment insurance, disability insurance and paid family leave. These entities support our mission to provide leadership to protect and improve the well-being of California`s current and future workforce.
The North Carolina Department of Commerce is the states lead agency for economic, community and workforce development. Taking a comprehensive approach to economic development, the Departments work reaches many areas. The Department helps people find jobs and employers find and retain a qualified workforce. The Department administers the states employment security system, supporting workers during career transitions. The Department provides local communities with grants and planning services to spur infrastructure development and economic growth, and administers the states economic incentive programs. The Department is also responsible for recruiting companies to the state, helping existing North Carolina companies expand, encouraging business start-ups, enabling companies to export, and marketing North Carolina as a business and visitor destination. In October 2014, the Department entered a contract with a new public-private organization, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina (EDPNC) to take the lead in these recruiting and marketing functions.
Pete Buttigieg is running for President in 2020. This is a now or never moment for our nation. Whether it`s a climate on the horizon of catastrophe, a gun violence epidemic, or an economy where wages are stagnant, but costs keep rising - we are running out of time to take meaningful action. These crises are years in the making, yet Washington politicians have failed to act. Pete understands the urgency of these problems as a Midwestern mayor who has seen his hometown ravaged by corporate recklessness and as a veteran who served in one of the endless post-9/11 wars. He also understands, as someone who has been on the ground turning his city around from the brink, that we need to meet this moment with fresh and bold solutions that emerge from outside Washington--solutions that unite us around our shared values, instead of driving more partisan wedges between us, and that bring everyone to the table, instead of just preaching to the choir. We`ve faced big challenges as a nation before and we came together to overcome them. We`re ready to break with the past and summon the courage to once again do big things and create a better future for our country.
The Baltimore City Health Department is the oldest, continuously-operating health department in the United States, formed in 1793, when the governor appointed the city`s first health officers in response to a yellow fever outbreak in the Fells Point neighborhood. During the more than 220 years since then, we`ve been working to improve the health and well-being of Baltimore residents. We strive to make Baltimore a city where all residents realize their full health potential. In collaboration with other city agencies, health care providers, community organizations and funders, we aim to empower all Baltimoreans with the knowledge, access, and environment that will enable healthy living. The Health Department has a wide-ranging area of responsibility, including acute communicable diseases, animal control, chronic disease prevention, emergency preparedness, HIV/STD, maternal-child health, restaurant inspections, school health, senior services and youth violence issues. The agency includes a workforce of approximately 800 employees and has a budget of approximately $126 million.
