In 1955, 15 civilian employees at Shaw Air Force base in Sumter, South Carolina pooled their money to charter SAFE Federal Credit Union. Since then, SAFE has grown to over 108,000 members and more than $874 million in assets. SAFE is the largest Midlands based credit union with 20 branches in eight counties in South Carolina.
