Jaxsta is a music company using technology to meet the need for authenticated music information. Digital music has seen an end to the printed “jacket” that once came with a physical CD or LP and where music enthusiasts and professionals would look to discover the story behind the music. The Jaxsta platform collates and authenticates data from major and independent record labels, publishers, royalty agencies and industry associations and publishes it online making it the go-to source of official music information.
First Look Media will be a hybrid organization, comprised of a for-profit media technology company and a non-profit journalism organization. The hope is that revenue from the for-profit company will be able to fund First Look's team of journalists. In other words, Omidyar seems to be avoiding the advertising-sponsored model that troubles so many media outlets.
