Island Nursing Home and Care Center, established in 1983. We serve 70 residents—38 in nursing (including a small number in skilled nursing) and 32 in residential care. We are one of only five independent, non-profit nursing homes in Maine. We have consistently earned the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services` (CMS) top rating of five stars. Our mission is to provide the highest level of innovative and quality healthcare to an aging population while maintaining community relations and honoring our core values of care, compassion, and service. Our dedicated staff assures each resident’s unique needs are recognized. We develop care tailored to those needs. Our residents’ independence and dignity are priorities as is maintaining an environment where they are safe and valued. We have introduced innovative programs which help us serve our residents better. These include Namaste Care™, the Virtual Dementia Tour®, and Music and Me. We launched a capital campaign in October, 2015. The purpose of this project is to provide a much-needed renovation of a 32-year-old facility and to bring it up to current standards in order to improve the quality of life for our residents. The renovation will also enhance the working conditions of our direct-care staff.
