With an array of economic development programs and beautification services to go with its feet on the street" enhanced public safety system, the Downtown Development District has been a key player in moving Downtown New Orleans forward. The DDD was created by the Louisiana Legislature in 1974 as the nation`s first assessment-based business improvement district. Funding comes from a property assessment in the Downtown area, which is further leveraged with state and federal dollars, sponsorships and fund-raising activities.
