American School for the Deaf

The American School for the Deaf (ASD), established in 1817 in Hartford, Connecticut, is the oldest permanent school for the deaf in the United States. Founded by Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet, Mason Cogswell, and Laurent Clerc, ASD was created to provide education and communication skills to deaf children, addressing the need for local educational facilities at the time. The school has played a significant role in the development of Deaf culture and education in America. ASD offers comprehensive educational services for deaf and hard-of-hearing students, functioning as both a residential and day school. It provides a full academic curriculum along with specialized instruction in American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf culture. The school promotes a community environment that supports the language, social, and academic development of its students. Additionally, ASD maintains extensive archives related to deaf education and culture, serving as valuable resources for scholars and the Deaf community.

The Set Me Free Project

The Set Me Free Project is a nonprofit organization that is focused on the prevention education of human trafficking. Our mission is to stop human trafficking before it starts by providing prevention education to all ages. Prevention education is the key to stopping human trafficking. Unfortunately, most schools lack the resources to provide this education themselves. The Set Me Free Project strives to fill that need. We provide age-appropriate, interactive presentations to youth and present to adults in every facet of the community. For every audience, we offer tools, resources, and, when needed, referrals to services. The Set Me Free Projects "READY to Stand Curriculum™." This research-based curriculum has age-appropriate material for youth in third grade through college. The lessons begin with education on the importance of human dignity and value, social media safety, and consent, with the topic of human trafficking introduced in seventh grade. This curriculum is the product of our past years experience in prevention education, detailed research, and feedback from experts in the human trafficking field, survivors, and our audiences. We want every youth to see themselves in our curriculum. Our goal is to continue to improve and expand our abilities to serve, protect, and be a voice for the voiceless. For more information, check out our website. Wed love for you to join our fight!
