Independent Colleges of Indiana is the collective voice for excellence and choice in higher education for all students. What we do: -Public Policy Advocacy, especially in the cause of state and federally-funded student financial aid -Public Information and Research about the performance and contributions of the independent college sector in Indiana -Corporate and Foundation Fundraising, with all funds raised by ICI disbursed to member colleges -Development of Collaborative Services, such as group purchasing and shared services among our campuses -Administration of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program, along with other scholarships and grants We are an association of 30 private colleges and universities in Indiana. Founded in 1848, Muhlenberg is a highly selective, private, four-year liberal arts college located in the beautiful Lehigh Valley of eastern Pennsylvania. The College took its present name in 1867 from Henry Melchior Muhlenberg, patriarch of the Lutheran Church in the American Colonies. Muhlenberg aims to help students become independent critical thinkers who are intellectually agile, characterized by a zest for reasoned and civil debate, knowledgeable about the achievements and traditions of diverse civilizations and cultures, able to express ideas with clarity and grace, committed to life-long learning, equipped with ethical and civic values and prepared for lives of leadership and service. Stony Brook University was established in 1957 as a college for the preparation of secondary school teachers of mathematics and science; our first campus was located at Oyster Bay, Long Island, on the grounds of a former Gold Coast estate. In 1962, a new campus was built in Stony Brook, on land donated by local philanthropist Ward Melville. Part of the State University of New York system, Stony Brook now encompasses 123 buildings on 1,100 acres. In the nearly fifty years since its founding, the University has grown tremendously, and is now recognized as one of the nation`s important centers of learning and scholarship—carrying out the mandate given by the State Board of Regents in 1960 to become a university that would “stand with the finest in the country.”
