About the Company
The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is a regional government agency based in West Palm Beach, Fla. The agency`s core mission is to manage and protect water resources in 16 counties from Orlando to the Florida Keys by balancing and improving flood control, water quality, natural systems and water supply. It is the oldest and largest of the state`s five water management districts. The SFWMD manages and protects water resources on behalf of 8.1 million South Floridians, and is the lead agency in restoring America`s Everglades – the largest environmental project in the nation`s history.
About the Person
Edward L. Artau provides and oversees legal services in support of the agency`s mission responsibilities. Key program areas include legal counsel and research, negotiations and dispute resolution, resource protection rulemaking, litigation and preventive law. Artau was appointed Interim General Counsel in June 2014. Mr. Artau has 26 years of experience as a practicing litigator, with the past 10 years at the South Florida Water Management District. As a Senior Attorney in the District`s Office of Counsel, he has represented the agency successfully on a wide range of issues. Prior to joining the District in 2004, Mr. Artau had developed extensive experience in private practice with his own law firm and two nationally renowned law firms. He earned a Juris Doctorate from Georgetown University Law School and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University.
