Alabama Department of Finance is more than just dollars and cents. With 13 divisions and more than 500 employees, Finance claims a myriad of responsibilities. From formulating the Governor`s annual budgets to maintaining the grounds of the capitol complex in downtown Montgomery, the Alabama Department of Finance leaves its mark on state government. The state finance director, appointed by the Governor, leads the Department. He is the chief financial officer of the state and the Governor`s advisor in all financial matters. He is responsible for the oversight of each of the Department`s divisions, and is charged with protecting the financial interests of Alabama. Fulton County was formed from DeKalb County in 1853, and then consolidated with Milton and Campbell Counties in 1932. That`s why it has such an unusual, elongated shape. Of Georgia`s 159 counties, Fulton County was the 144th to be created. The Fulton name honors Robert Fulton, the inventor who built the Clermont, the first commercially successful steamboat, in 1807.
