About the Person

France Margaret Bélanger is entering her first season with the Montreal Canadiens organization after being appointed Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer on August 1, 2013. Before joining the Club de hockey Canadien, she was as a partner since 2003 and an associate from 1995 until 2002 with the law firm Stikeman Elliott LLP. Specializing in mergers and acquisitions, she led the Stikeman Elliott team that acted for the Gillett group in connection with the auction process for the sale of the Montreal Canadiens and the Bell Centre. She also represented the Saputo family in its acquisition of a Major League Soccer franchise. She also developed an expertise in the aviation industry, representing ACE Aviation, Air Canada and ACTS in several transactions. Mrs Bélanger received ample professional acknowledgements. She was, among others, recognized by The Best Lawyer in Canada 2013, and by The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory 2013, 2012 and 2011 as a leading practitioner in the corporate commercial and M&A sectors. She was also recognized as One of Canada’s 40 Rising Stars: Leading Lawyer Under 40. Admitted to the Quebec Bar in November 1995, France Margaret Bélanger is a Cum Laude graduate of the University of Ottawa, Law Faculty, Civil Law and B.C.L.  in 1994. She is presently completing a Masters in Business Administration in the EMBA McGill – HEC Montreal program.
