Frenkel & Company was founded as a marine insurance brokerage in 1878 by Emil Frenkel, a German immigrant. His sons, George and Leo, embraced Emil`s course of entrepreneurial leadership. Together, they established Frenkel`s reputation in the New York insurance market, while mentoring the next generation of Frenkel & Company brokers. In 1985, members of the Frenkel family sold the company to the Frenkel Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). This new organization secured Frenkel’s status as an independent insurance brokerage.
