Our History: In 1958, Chanute Military Credit Union opened its doors on the Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois to serve military personnel and their families. With the government`s announcement of plans to close the Chanute Air Force Base, plans were made to expand the credit union in order to continue to serve those faithful military members. As a result, the field of membership was expanded and we changed our name to Credit Union 1 in 1982. In 1999, we combined forces with Paysaver Credit Union, headquartered in Lombard, Illinois. Today we serve over 87,000 members throughout the state of Illinois and Indiana, as well as worldwide. Become a Member: Becoming a member at Credit Union 1 is easy! To be eligible for membership in the credit union, you must be an individual or entity qualifying within our field of membership. All it takes is a $5.00 one time membership fee and a $5.00 initial deposit. With your membership, you will have access to all of our products and services. Since Self-Help`s founding in 1980, it has grown to include two credit unions, a loan fund, and a research and policy development group that supports those outside of the economic mainstream. Specifically, we: * Help borrowers build wealth by providing fair and responsible mortgages and small business loans in North Carolina, California and other parts of the nation. * Strengthen under-served communities by financing affordable housing, childcare centers, public charter schools, faith-based organizations, and community-focused commercial real estate projects. * Research and report on financial markets to support policies and industry practices that lower the cost of poverty and promote ownership.
Altana is a Montana financial cooperative, where citizens save together and pool their resources to provide loans that have built homes, purchased equipment for farmers, or financed someone's first car. The members of Altana help each other, while helping themselves. Altana Federal Credit Union (then Laurel Federal Credit Union) started in 1949 out of an empty railcar in Laurel, Montana. Several railroad workers joined together and started the credit union as a way to safeguard themselves from the high cost of banking services. The first loan given was to purchase a sewing machine. Altana has grown to offer seven locations, a wide range of products and services and a nationwide free ATM network. Altana serves residents throughout Yellowstone, Carbon, Stillwater, Sweet Grass, Golden Valley, Wheatland and Musselshell counties in Montana.
