People Incorporated of Virginia is a non-profit Community Action Agency and Community Development Corporation committed to providing opportunities for economically disadvantaged people to reach their goals in order to enhance their lives, families, and communities.
Tucked in the ancient Appalachian Mountains of Southwest Virginia is a vibrant culture of tradition, food, music and craft. It`s a region of spectacular views, abundant outdoor recreation, and rich natural resources. Rooted deep in history, this culture is authentic… distinctive… alive. Together with the 19 counties, four cities and 53 towns of the region, we`re building a sustainable creative economy that preserves, protects and interprets our rich heritage and natural resources, creates jobs, and welcomes both visitors and new businesses to our region every single day. The Southwest Virginia Cultural Heritage Commission, established in 2008 by the Virginia General Assembly, works as the lead in developing a creative economy in Southwest Virginia. In 2011, the Commission became the Southwest Virginia Cultural Heritage Foundation. Through a supporting non-profit, the Friends of Southwest Virginia, businesses and individuals help artists, craftspeople, localities, nonprofits and entrepreneurs mobilize and succeed.
We are a familiar face and trusted friend in central and southwest Minnesota but with a new name. The new name – United Community Action Partnership, Inc. (UCAP) – was adopted through the merging of two organizations (Heartland Community Action and Western Community Action) with a rich history of helping people, changing lives, and working to eliminate poverty in the lives of people in Cottonwood, Jackson, Kandiyohi, Lincoln, Lyon, McLeod, Meeker, Redwood, and Renville counties. UCAP is a joint effort to bring together area resources to effectively and efficiently address the growing needs of our local communities in southwest Minnesota. We continue to hold true to our history of being a “grass-roots” private nonprofit organization that is represented and led by the communities we serve.

AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), the largest global AIDS organization, currently provides medical care and/or services to more than 350,000 individuals in 36 countries worldwide in the US, Africa, Latin America/Caribbean, the Asia/Pacific Region and Eastern Europe. A truly independent voice in our mission to rid the world of HIV/AIDS, AHF’s operating capital comes from our own self-created social enterprises. AHF Pharmacies, thrift stores, health care contracts and other strategic partnerships generate funding that helps AHF provide medical and advocacy services to the thousands of people it serves. Generating and defining new, innovative ways to treatment, prevention and advocacy is the hallmark of AHF’s success. It is currently embarked on a mass testing initiative to identify and treat the 25 million people who don’t know they are infected. It will take 1 billion tests annually, and AHF is advocating mass testing models in hopes of eliminating older, more time consuming methods. Since 1987, AHF has cared for thousands of people living with HIV/AIDS worldwide. As AHF creates and implements its unparalleled programs in new communities in the U.S. and abroad, we expand its delivery of healthcare and influence over policy with the sole aim of saving more lives.
