Opportunity@Work

We work to expand career opportunities so that individuals Skilled Through Alternative Routes (STARs) can work, learn, and earn to their full potential. We envision a future where people are celebrated for the skills and potential they have, rather than defined by their level of education. Creating this future starts with changing the way we talk about the 60% of adults in the U.S. who do not have a bachelor`s degree. They may not have a degree, but they have developed valuable skills on the job, through military service, community college or other alternative routes. We recognize them as STARs – workers who are Skilled Through Alternative Routes instead of through a bachelor`s degree. In response to the economic crisis, we are working alongside our partners to rapidly advance the three pillars of work: AWAKEN employers to the value of STARs through data analysis and communications campaigns that change perceptions of workers without a bachelor`s degree and elevate STARs` skills and potential. CONNECT employers with training providers and STARs through the rapid scaling of our online marketplace which will reduce the time, cost, and perceived risk of hiring STARs. ACCELERATE learning and investment by launching the STARs Pathways Collective, activating the workforce ecosystem to support and place 10,000 STARs into middle-wage jobs within the first 3 years. Together we can ensure that STARs are at the center of our country`s equitable economic recovery so they are able to achieve both economic stability and mobility.
