LED Dental traces its roots back to the mid-1990s, when company founder Peter Whitehead began performing oral cancer research in conjunction with the British Columbia Cancer Agency (BCCA). In 2000, Peter and a fellow BCCA researcher were awarded patents for groundbreaking technologies they developed for detecting oral cancer. Peter ultimately formed LED Medical Diagnostics Inc. and it operating subsidiary, LED Dental, to focus on the advancement of these technologies.
