About the Person

Liston Bishop, also known as Bo, III, has been a General Counsel and Executive Vice President of Unum Group since October 2008. He joined the company from Miller & Martin PLLC, a prominent law firm with offices in Atlanta, Chattanooga and Nashville, where he practiced corporate and securities law since 1979. Until August 2007, he also served as deputy general counsel and corporate secretary of Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc., at that time the world’s largest bottler of Coca-Cola, where his principal responsibilities were mergers and acquisitions, securities law compliance and corporate governance. Bishop received both his undergraduate degree with honors in history, and his law degree with honors, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and a Morehead Scholar. Prior to practicing law, he was assistant director of the John Motley Morehead Foundation in Chapel Hill. He is a member of the Tennessee and Chattanooga bar associations, and the North Carolina State Bar. As the general counsel of Unum Group, he has overall responsibility for the legal affairs of the corporation, and heads a team of lawyers handling transactions, finance and investments, SEC and reporting, corporate governance, regulatory matters and relationships, compliance and complex litigation. Bishop will work in association with the general counsels for the principal operating segments of Unum US, Unum UK and Colonial Life.
