About the Person

Michael serves as Reed Smith's Chief Legal Officer.  Previously, he was the Global Head of Strategy for Reed Smith.  In that capacity, he led Reed Smith’s global expansion and particularly its merger activity.  He has been involved in seven significant merger transactions including mergers in London, Hong Kong, Chicago and California.  Michael has also been responsible for opening Reed Smith offices in Houston, Munich, Paris, Beijing, Shanghai, and Singapore.  In addition, he does recruiting in strategic markets and leads significant strategic initiatives. Michael has also led several other firm initiatives including the creation of Reed Smith University and its affiliation with the Wharton School of The University of Pennsylvania, the development of firm wide strategy and the creation of Reed Smith’s alternative fee program.  He has been with the firm since 1983 and resides in Philadelphia. Michael spent over five years living in both London and Hong Kong. Michael’s law practice was devoted to corporate and securities law and corporate counseling. He has represented a variety of companies including real estate investment trusts, manufacturing concerns, and franchisors and franchisees in their initial public offerings and secondary stock offerings. Michael has represented clients in connection with private placements, venture capital investments and investments by angel investors and friends and family. Michael has also represented many types of corporations in significant transactions, including mergers, leveraged buy-outs and acquisitions of stock or assets of privately and publicly held corporations. In addition, he has served as outside general counsel for many public and private companies, providing advice on a broad range of legal issues. Education Boston University School of Law, 1983, J.D.
