CUE is a boutique university, small enough that every student is essential yet large enough for a global outlook. In and out of our classrooms and lecture halls, we translate what we learn into extraordinary hands-on experiences. We live and work on a small campus, a river valley oasis, but Edmonton is our workshop. Our ultimate goal has not changed since 1921: to be more than students and professors, to create a community of active citizens, of good and honourable people. CUE offers over 45 majors and minors in Arts, Science and Management, as well as Master`s degrees in Information Security and Education, after degrees in Education and Public Health, and several graduate certificates and diplomas.
Zaytuna College, the first Muslim liberal arts college in the United States, began in 1996 as Zaytuna Institute in Hayward, California, co-founded by Hamza Yusuf and Hesham Alalusi. During its early years in the San Francisco Bay Area, the institute, through its educational programs, publications, and productions, established an international reputation for its efforts to help revive Islam`s educational and intellectual legacy and to popularize traditional learning among Western Muslims. In 2004, noting the paucity of religious leaders with the cultural literacy to tend to the spiritual and pastoral needs of American Muslims, Zaytuna Institute launched a pilot seminary program. Under the guidance of Zaid Shakir, the program trained and graduated five students in 2008. After the culmination of the pilot program, the Board of Directors of Zaytuna Institute (later renamed the Board of Trustees of Zaytuna College) guided the organization through a seismic transition, with the goal of establishing an accredited Muslim institution of higher education in the United States. In 2009, Zaytuna College was launched in Berkeley, California, by Hatem Bazian, Zaid Shakir, and Hamza Yusuf. The Summer Arabic Intensive, a two-month, residential language course, was its first academic program. Subsequently, the undergraduate program welcomed its inaugural freshman class for the Fall 2010 semester.
Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) offers numerous associate degrees, university transfer partnerships, specialized certificate programs, short-term job training, and community education opportunities. Courses are taught by more than 300 award-winning residential and adjunct faculty who are experts in their fields. With small class sizes, students receive individualized attention and every opportunity to engage in the learning experience both inside and outside of the classroom. EMCC Buckeye and EMCC @ West-MEC Southwest Campus locations provide additional learning opportunities for students in the far West Valley. EMCC is a designated Hispanic-Serving and Minority-Serving Institution, part of the Maricopa County Community College District.
