About the Person
Patricia Hatler joined Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company as General Counsel in 1999 and became Executive Vice President, Chief Legal and Governance Officer in 2003. She is responsible for the Legal, Government Relations, Compliance, and Corporate Citizenship functions for Nationwide. She previously served as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for Independence Blue Cross in Philadelphia, and prior to that was an attorney in the Philadelphia office of the Dechert law firm. Pat was the 2009-2010 Chair of the Board of Directors of the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC), the premier professional association for in-house attorneys. She is a member of the ACC Columbus Conference of Corporate General Counsel. Pat is an Adjunct Professor at the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. She serves as a director on the boards of the United Way USA, the Columbus College of Art and Design, the Kents Hill School, the Law and Leadership Institute, and the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity. She is a magna cum laude graduate of Duke University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree with honors in cognitive psychology. She earned her law degree from the University of Virginia, where she was a Hardy Dillard Fellow. She is a frequent speaker at professional conferences and continuing legal education programs.
