Founded in 1874, Mercy Medical Center is a Catholic health care facility, sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy, as well as a teaching hospital for the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Humber River Hospital is one of Canada`s largest regional acute care hospitals, serving a catchment area of more than 850,000 people in the northwest GTA. Humber River`s redevelopment plan, approved by the provincial government, saw the official groundbreaking ceremony take place on December 2, 2011. The new Humber River will be Ontario`s first digital hospital, one that Humber River plans to make a technological and environmental showcase.
