The collections they amassed formed the basis of what today numbers in excess of 1.8 million works of art and culture. After a $200 million transformation in 2003, which included over 250,000 square feet of new and renovated galleries and public spaces, the museum ranks among the largest art museums on the East Coast, with a vibrant schedule of exhibitions and public programs. In November 2011, PEM announced an unprecedented $650 million Advancement Campaign, toward which $570 million has already been raised. By emphasizing endowment for long-term stability and investing in infrastructure, the museum will once again transform the art museum experience for the 21st century.
