About the Company
The Tennessee Valley Authority is a corporate agency of the United States that provides electricity for business customers and local power distributors serving 9 million people in parts of seven southeastern states. TVA receives no taxpayer funding, deriving virtually all of its revenues from sales of electricity. In addition to operating and investing its revenues in its electric system, TVA provides flood control, navigation and land management for the Tennessee River system and assists local power companies and state and local governments with economic development and job creation.
About the Person
Ralph E. Rodgers is executive vice president and general counsel, responsible for directing TVA's legal affairs and serving as corporate secretary to the board of directors. As TVA's chief legal officer, Rodgers heads TVA's Office of the General Counsel, which provides legal services to TVA in all aspects of its operations. Rodgers also is the designated agency ethics official, responsible for the administration of TVA’s agency-wide ethics program. Rodgers has more than 30 years of TVA experience. He previously served as deputy general counsel, assistant general counsel for procurement and corporate contracts, and senior litigation attorney. Earlier, he was in private practice in Colorado, where he focused on representing businesses in construction and commercial disputes. A native of South Florida, Rodgers received a bachelor's degree from the University of Florida and a law degree from the University of Miami. He is admitted to practice law in the Supreme Court of the United States and in the states of Tennessee and Colorado. He is a member of the Tennessee and Knoxville Bar Associations. Rodgers and his wife live in Knoxville. They have two children and two grandchildren.
