South Georgia Technical College`s main campus is located in Sumter County, six miles northeast of Americus. The college is 135 miles south of Atlanta, between Highways 19 and 49 on South Georgia Tech Parkway. It has a satellite campus in Cordele. It has been spotlighted as the top-ranked community college in Georgia for 2017 by two different organizations. South Georgia Technical College is one of only two technical colleges in Georgia with on-campus housing and a full service cafeteria. The college offers over 200 different associate degree, diploma and short-term technical certificate of credit educational opportunities. Weatherford College enriches the lives of the students and communities it serves through innovative, affordable, and accessible learning and cultural opportunities. Established in 1869, Weatherford College can still lay claim to be the oldest continuing educational institution west of the Mississippi River. Its District consists of five counties – Parker, Palo Pinto, Hood, Jack and Wise. The 2013 fall enrollment reached an all-time high at just over 5,700, made up of students from all over Texas, 32 other states and 23 foreign countries. The College strives to provide students with the right kind of environment to build strong foundations for future success. Our students transfer to universities and colleges throughout the United States and join the work force having received state-of-the art technical training. Through our partnerships with institutions such as the University of Texas at Arlington and Tarleton State University, to name a few, students may also pursue bachelor, master and doctorate degrees. The College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and many other program-specific accrediting authorities. As a publicly-supported, comprehensive community college and a member of the system of higher education, Weatherford College primarily serves the needs of its five-county service area through teaching, research, public service and learning.
The Lake Forest Schools are divided into two districts: District 67 and District 115. District 67 is an elementary district, which includes three Kindergarten through 4th grade schools (Cherokee, Everett, and Sheridan), and one middle school for grades 5-8 (Deer Path). District 67 serves the community of Lake Forest only. Graduates of District 67 attend Lake Forest High School (District 115), which serves the communities of Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, and Knollwood. Elementary students from Lake Bluff and Knollwood attend Lake Bluff Elementary School District 65. District 65 has a student enrollment of approximately 900 students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade. Students in Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade attend Lake Bluff Elementary School, and students in grades 6-8 attend Lake Bluff Middle School. Graduates of District 65 also attend Lake Forest High School.
