Shake Smart was started by two college students in 2011 who found it difficult to find healthy options, while living the college on-the-go lifestyle. Their vision was to make healthy eating more accessible and to have a balance of nutrients, focusing specifically on protein. Their solution was being healthy should fit your lifestyle by having customizable products, all being high in protein, built for on-the-go. With 45+ locations, Shake Smart is continuing to grow across universities nationwide, and are now beginning to expand into hospitals, airports, and additional military installations, forging a new segment of the blended drink industry called "functional nutrition".
The North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to hunger relief, founded in 1982. It serves 12 counties in North Texas, including Dallas and Collin, with a mission to provide food for today and hope for tomorrow. NTFB distributes food through a network of nearly 500 Partner Agencies, such as food pantries and shelters, and has provided 144 million meals in its 2023 fiscal year. NTFB collects surplus food donations and purchases food items, including fresh produce and non-perishable groceries, to support individuals and families facing food insecurity. The organization mobilizes around 31,000 volunteers each year for food sorting and distribution. NTFB also engages in advocacy efforts to promote food donations and protect donors. With a focus on efficiency, approximately 94 cents of every dollar donated goes directly to hunger relief programs.
