Susan C. Miller is senior vice president, general counsel and secretary of Avery Dennison Corporation. She was elected to her current position in January 2009. In her role, Ms. Miller is responsible for the legal aspects of the company’s global strategy and operations, including corporate policies and strategic planning, shareholder protection, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, intellectual property, and corporate governance and compliance. As corporate secretary, she is responsible for matters pertaining to the Board of Directors. Ms. Miller joined Avery Dennison in 1991 as senior counsel and was promoted to assistant general counsel in 1998. From 1991 to 2007, she served in a series of increasingly responsible positions with the company, including several years in Hong Kong as counsel to Avery Dennison’s Asia Pacific businesses. In 2007, she was promoted to vice president and general counsel, and was promoted to senior vice president and general counsel in 2008. Prior to joining Avery Dennison, Ms. Miller served as an associate at the law firms of Latham & Watkins in Los Angeles and Kirkpatrick & Lockhart in Pittsburgh. Ms. Miller is a member of the San Francisco Advisory Board of FM Global. She also serves on the board of the Constitutional Rights Foundation and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Corporate Law Departments Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association. Ms. Miller graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in management sciences/accounting from Duke University and earned a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
