About the Person

Thomas A. Mars, also known as Tom, has been Partner of Taylor English Duma, LLP since September 2014. Mr. Mars served as Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of Walmart U S at Wal-Mart Stores Inc. from February 2009 to June 2014. He served as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado, a world-renowned orthopedic surgery clinic whose patients include countless professional athletes from around the globe. Mr. Mars served as General Counsel of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. since May 2002. Mr. Mars served as Chief of Legal Department of Wal-Mart Stores Inc., and its Senior Vice President. Mr. Mars oversaw the Legal Department, which is responsible for handling all legal matters affecting of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. Since In 1998, Mr. Mars has been Director of the Arkansas State Police. Mr. Mars served as State Police Director until 2001, when he stepped down to return to the practice of law in the Northwest Arkansas office of Kutak Rock LLP. He serves as the Chairman of the Corporate Board of Advisors and a Member of Corporate Board of Advisors at National Council Of La Raza, Inc. He served as Clerk for Chief Judge Monroe G. McKay of the U.S. 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Salt Lake City and served as an associate in the Rose Law Firm in Little Rock. Mr. Mars is the Chairman for the American Bar Association Minority Counsel Program Steering Committee. Mr. Mars also served as a Member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, the Leadership Advisory Council of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, and the Corporate Advisory Panel of the National Bar Association. He was a highly experienced trial lawyer in Arkansas before joining Walmart. His experience and accomplishments include a number of seven-figure jury verdicts and eight-figure settlements as well as the successful defense of corporate defendants in complex litigation. He served as Partner in the Springdale firm of Stanley, Harrington & Mars from 1988 to 1993 and the Fayetteville firm of Everett & Mars from 1993 to 1998. He served as Editor-in-Chief of the Arkansas Law Review. Mr. Mars is a graduate of Arkansas State University and the University of Arkansas School of Law, where he finished first in his class in 1985.
