Nicholls State University, located in Thibodaux, La., is an accredited regional university with a diverse population of about 6,500 traditional and nontraditional students. Since first opening its doors in 1948, Nicholls has been the only university serving the Bayou Region. The family-oriented campus offers more than 100 bachelor`s and master`s degree programs, 90-plus student organizations and 14 Division I athletic teams.
The University of the South is home to one of the nation`s top liberal arts colleges, a School of Letters, and a seminary of the Episcopal Church. Often known simply as "Sewanee," the University offers an unmatched educational experience. The University remains purposefully small and dedicated to building a sense of community. Close faculty-student interaction ensures that each student enjoys a rich and personal educational experience. The result of such individualized education is clear. The College has had 26 Rhodes Scholars--a number that puts Sewanee in the top four nationally among American liberal arts colleges--as well as 34 NCAA Postgraduate Fellows, 47 Watson Fellows, and dozens of Fulbright Scholars. The School of Theology has added to its alumni ranks countless bishops, including three of the last five presiding bishops of the Episcopal Church. Sewanee offers 36 majors and 33 minors, along with preparation for careers in medicine, law, education and business. A comprehensive endowed program provides financial support for summer internships and strengthens career development for undergraduates. The University is located atop the Cumberland Plateau between Nashville and Chattanooga, Tenn. Its physical environment, which includes the 13,000-acre Domain (as the campus and surrounding area is known), provides a remarkable academic and recreational resource, and an unparalleled place in which to study and reflect.
With a mission to "Educate Every Child," Dare County`s 11 public schools serve a growing student population approaching 5000. Since 2003, the district has increase facilities by 44% through new construction and by additions/major renovations - four new schools have been added to the system. DCS has a thriving professional climate in which the numbers of Nationally Board Certified teachers (currently 62) is steadily increasing and approximately 1/3 of our teachers have earned advanced degrees. Each Dare County school has received accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Marked by more than a century of tradition since its founding by Booker T. Washington in 1881, Tuskegee University is known not only for being among the nation`s premier historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), but for its openness to all. An independent and state-related institution of higher education, TU is Alabama`s only private land-grant university. Its programs serve a student body numbering more than 3,000 students that is coeducational as well as racially, ethnically and religiously diverse. With a strong orientation toward disciplines that highlight the relationship between education and workforce preparation in the sciences, professions and technical areas, Tuskegee University also emphasizes the importance of the liberal arts as a foundation for successful careers in all areas. Academic instruction occurs in five colleges and three schools: the Andrew F. Brimmer College of Business & Information Science; College of Agriculture, Environment & Nutrition Sciences; College of Arts & Sciences; College of Engineering; College of Veterinary Medicine; Robert R. U.S. News and the Wall Street Journal both currently rank Tuskegee University fourth nationally among HCBUs. In its “Regional Universities South” category, U.S. News ranks Tuskegee first among Alabama HBCUs, second among regional HBCUs, and 24th among all regional public and private institutions.
