2020 On-site Optometry

Not many would disagree that the gift of vision is precious and that sight is the sense we often rely on the most. But when it comes to taking care of their eyes many people fall short. Why? Because it`s not particularly easy to do. At least, that`s what our CEO and Founder, Howard Bornstein, thought. A few years back, when Howard failed to recognize a colleague who greeted him from down the hall, he learned the hard way that he was overdue for an eye exam. Over the next couple of years, however, he recognized the utter inconveniences of the entire process: office hours made it challenging to fit in an appointment with a full-time job, finding an office close by and that accepted his insurance presented further struggles, he seemed to incur unnecessary charges, follow-up visits were required, and that`s not to mention the issue of Driving While Dilated (D.W.D). These inconveniences slowly nagged at him as he continued to learn more and more about the vision care industry. With a background in consulting and venture capital, eventually he couldn`t help but think, “just because this is how something`s always been done, doesn`t mean there isn`t a better way to do it.” When Howard met our Chief Medical Officer, Shazia Ahmed, at a cocktail party, it was as if the stars had aligned. She had the medical background and was looking to branch out in her career, and he had the business know-how and entrepreneurial spirit. The idea of 2020 grew gradually, out of a ton of research, observation and fact-finding. It all boiled down to this: Why not turn something that`s so important into something that`s also hassle-free? Why not meet people where they are, and bring the eye doctor to them? Why not make the experience entirely customer-focused? That`s just what we did.
