Verdant Power was established in 2000 and is based in New York, NY.  Throughout the company, emerging technology developers are coupled with utility industry veterans with advanced experience in constructing and operating electricity generation facilities, with an emphasis on hydropower. Verdant Power maintains a recognized leadership position within the emerging marine and hydrokinetic (MHK) energy industry, with world-leading initiatives and technologies. The Company’s management team serves in leadership roles on a variety of industry organizations, as well as working alongside government entities and elected officials to facilitate the adoption of renewable energy technologies worldwide. Since its inception, Verdant Power has worked in partnership with entities including the US Department of Energy, the US Department of the Navy, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), the City of New York, and the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation, among many others.  In 2010, Verdant Power received the Company Pioneer Award at the EnergyOcean International Conference, and in 2006 the company was presented with the National Hydropower Association’s President's Award, the association's highest honor. Illustrating Verdant Power’s groundbreaking efforts in the regulatory world, on January 23, 2012, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued a pilot commercial license for Verdant Power's RITE Project – the first-ever commercial license for tidal power in the United States.  Under the license, Verdant Power is authorized to develop the 1 MW project in the East Channel of New York City's East River. Verdant Power has been featured on national television outlets, news programs and documentaries including the NBC Nightly News, CBS Evening News, CNN, The Discovery Channel, The National Geographic Channel, and Warner Independent Pictures' “The 11th Hour.”  Verdant Power also has been written about in various mainstream and industry publications including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Time, USA Today, Newsweek and Popular Mechanics.
