CPC was opened in 1996 to serve as a child-friendly, safe place for children and adolescents who are alleged victims of sexual or extreme physical abuse, neglect or who have witnessed a homicide or violence to give a statement about their experience. This statement is called a forensic interview. In 1996, fewer than 350 children received forensic interviews or extended forensic interviews; that number grew to 827 by 2010. Since 1996 more than 11,000 children and their families have been served.
