Polk County provides a broad range of services including law enforcement, child support collection and child protection, transportation and nutrition programs for senior citizens, maintenance of a 515 mile highway system, provision of public health services including immunization and restaurant inspections, monitoring and safeguarding of the County`s environmental resources, promotion of orderly development through planning and zoning, operation of the county detention center and court system, provision of assistance to veterans, the elderly and disabled, operation of a long-term care and rehabilitation facility, and management of 5 county parks, a recycling center, and 17,144 acres of county forest land. The county does so through the efforts of just over 500 employees organized into 23 departments and funded by a $53 million annual budget. Located in northwestern Wisconsin, Polk County contains an incredible variety of natural beauty in its lakes and rivers, small towns, rolling hills, farms and forests. The county is bordered on the west by the St. Croix River, a federally designated wild and scenic river, with the magnificent St. Croix Dalles forming the heart of Interstate State Park. Peacefully rural in nature, the county has no city with a population over 3,000. Polk County was organized in 1853, and over the past decade has been one of the fastest-growing counties in Wisconsin. It has a diverse economy with a mix of agriculture, tour-ism, manufacturing, and services. The Joint Staff assists the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in accomplishing his responsibilities for: the unified strategic direction of the combatant forces; their operation under unified command; and for their integration into an efficient team of land, naval, and air forces. The Joint Staff is composed of approximately equal numbers of officers from the Army, Navy and Marine Corps and Air Force. In practice, the Marines make up about 20 percent of the number allocated to the Navy. Since its establishment in 1947, statute has prohibited the Joint Staff from operating or organizing as an overall armed forces general staff; therefore, the Joint Staff has no executive authority over combatant forces. The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS) is the highest-ranking military officer in the United States Armed Forces and is the principal military advisor to the President, the National Security Council, and the Secretary of Defense. U.S. Marine Gen. Joe Dunford is the 19th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The Joint Chiefs of Staff consist of the Chairman, the Vice Chairman, the Chief of Staff of the Army, the Chief of Naval Operations, the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, the Commandant of the Marine Corps and the Chief of the National Guard Bureau. The collective body of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) is headed by the Chairman (or the Vice Chairman in the Chairmans absence), who sets the agenda and presides over JCS meetings. Responsibilities as members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff take precedence over duties as the Chiefs of Military Services. The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is the principal military adviser to the President, Secretary of Defense, and the National Security Council (NSC), however, all JCS members are by law military advisers, and they may respond to a request or voluntarily submit, through the Chairman, advice or opinions to the President, the Secretary of Defense, or NSC.

The Alcoholic Beverage Control Division has as its mission, such duties and assignments as have been given to it by the Arkansas General Assembly over the years. Those powers and duties can be briefly described as being the regulation, supervision and control of the manufacture, distribution and sale of all alcoholic beverages and the issuance of permits, and the regulation thereof, in pursuit of those duties and powers. The Alcoholic Beverage Control Administration Division receives applications, processes those applications and, depending upon whether the qualifications are met as established by law and by regulation, the permit may be issued to the applicant. In summary, the mission of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Division is to exercise supervision and control over a system which allows for the legal distribution of alcoholic beverage products in the State of Arkansas. The mission of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Enforcement Division is to enforce all Arkansas Code Annotated Laws of the State Control Act, cigarette, sales, Rules and Regulations adopted by the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, and the training and assistance for all law enforcement agencies as well as other organizations regarding alcoholic beverages. In addition to enforcement, the Alcoholic Beverage Control Enforcement Division conducts investigations of those persons, businesses and organizations who apply for licenses under the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act. The Alcoholic Beverage Control agents conduct inspections and report on permit applications in addition to the investigations of violations and apprehensions of violators. The agents also answer complaints and perform other special assignments; such as food stamp fraud when used to purchase alcoholic beverages. All Alcoholic Beverage Control Enforcement agents must be certified law enforcement officers.
The City of Knox is located in Center Township and is the county seat for Starke County, Indiana. The population was 3,721 in the 2000 census. The city was founded in 1851 and named after General Henry Knox. Knox was also the home of Indiana Governor Henry F. Schricker. The City of Knox even has its own flag, designed by Raluca Fodorean.
