he Child Center of NY began in 1953 as a children`s mental health agency. Since then we have evolved into a multi-service organization that reaches more than 26,000 children each year. Our mission is to strengthen children and families with skills, opportunities, and emotional support to build healthy, successful lives. We believe in a world where every family has the tools to raise emotionally and physically healthy children, every child thrives, and together they contribute to strong, vibrant communities. We believe that every child has the right to be happy and secure. We know that healthy family and community relationships are essential to a child`s success, and that poverty, trauma, and the hardships of immigration can threaten a child`s development. We know that with the right skills, education, counseling, and development programs, children can reach their full potential. To achieve these goals, we work in four main program areas: early childhood education, behavioral health (including both individual and family counseling), child abuse prevention and family support, and youth development. We take a holistic approach, realizing that children don`t grow in isolation, but rather as a part of families and communities, and we offer services that support each child`s whole cognitive, social-emotional, and physical well-being as the building blocks for a healthier society. We also offer programs that serve parents and other caregivers so that they become able to handle challenges on their own. We provide all services in a culturally sensitive manner, in 22 different languages and in a way that appreciates the nuances and potential barriers of intercultural communication.
The Inter-American Foundation (IAF), an independent U.S. foreign assistance agency of the United States government, invests in citizen-led grassroots development initiatives throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Created by Congress in 1969, the IAF responds directly to grassroots groups and the organizations that support them by extending grants that prioritize the hemisphere`s most disadvantaged people and further economic opportunities, more secure communities, social inclusion and participation in democratic processes. IAF grantee partners confirm their commitment by contributing in cash or in kind toward the success of their projects and by mobilizing resources to continue their impact. The IAF encourages partnerships with businesses, government and other community organizations directed at improving the quality of life for poor people and in strengthening democratic practices.
Hillside Family of Agencies provides comprehensive health, education, and human services for children and families whose challenges threaten their ability to realize their full potential. We are guided by a deeply held belief that healthy children and strong families with opportunities to succeed are the foundation of a thriving community. For over 175 years, Hillside has put this belief into practice by partnering with communities across New York and Maryland to help them meet life`s complex challenges.

The Literacy Center is dedicated to improving adult literacy and education thereby strengthening our community. We seek to solve the problem of adult illiteracy within our community by offering free reading education and confidential tutoring, which is customized to the needs of our students. Our goal is to help them become more employable, financially stable and self-sufficient through mastering essential reading skills. We offer literacy education through computer-based instruction, an education coordinator, workshops and private tutoring. Our volunteer tutors tailor their sessions to the student`s individual needs and include using functional materials such as grocery store ads, employment applications, medical information, checkbooks, and textbooks. This educational component of functional materials allows them to increase life skills required for independent living.
