About the Person

Bill McCanless has served as chief legal officer, secretary and chief compliance officer since 2015. In this role, he is responsible for the company’s legal function as well as advising the chairman and board of directors on corporate governance matters. McCanless previously served as general counsel for Lowe’s from 2003 to 2006 and most recently served as chief legal officer, general counsel and secretary for Extended Stay America, Inc. and ESH Hospitality, Inc. Prior to Lowe’s, McCanless held various positions at Delhaize Group and was in private law practice. He has a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a juris doctor degree from Wake Forest University Law School.
