The Hamilton County Sheriff`s Office (HCSO) was created on October 25, 1819 when the County of Hamilton was established. With a population of over 336,000, Hamilton is the fourth-most populous county in Tennessee. Our county was named for Alexander Hamilton, the first Secretary of the Treasury. As the 4th largest Sheriff`s Office in Tennessee, our operations include approximately 183 certified deputies, 161 sworn deputies, and 90 civilian staff personnel. In addition to our traditional patrol and corrections operations, our agency boasts numerous specialty divisions and units to include, but certainly not limited to SWAT, K-9, Hostage Negotiation, Unmanned Aerial Systems (Drones), Marine Patrol, Forensic Divers, Criminal Investigations, CBRNE, Forensics, Honor Guard, Fleet Management, School Resource Officers, Traffic, Public Relations, and Property and Evidence. Each year, HCSO personnel respond to thousands of calls for service throughout Hamilton County. Each day our personnel, both certified and civilian work diligently with our law enforcement partners throughout the region to ensure our citizens and visitors receive the highest quality law enforcement services possible. For two hundred years the men and women of the Hamilton County Sheriff`s Office have provided consistent law enforcement operations throughout Hamilton County. From a bygone era of mounted deputies on horseback crisscrossing wagon trails to the use of modern technology and state-of-the-art vehicles, our deputies continue to honor our agency`s rich history and uphold the legacy and traditions of those who have proudly served before us.

The Texas State legislature officially established Ellis County on December 20,1849 when it passed a bill sponsored by Gen. Edward H. Tarrant. It was drawn from Navarro County and is named for Richard Ellis, president of the Texas Constitutional Convention of 1836. County Seat Waxahachie was named the county seat and established on land donated by E. W. Rogers in August, 1850. William Hawkins was the first chief justice (county judge). Judge Oran Milo Roberts presided over the first term of the Ellis County district court during the fall of 1850. First settled in the 1600′s, it was not until March 3rd, 1894 that it became the Incorporated Village of Amityville. In its infancy, the “friendly bay village”, as it has come to be known, was primarily a farming community that had strong ties to the fishing and boating industries. Salt hay was an important agri-product that was grown to feed livestock. But the farms and marine industries slowly gave way to the needs of summer visitors in search of comforts afforded by the cool breezes and beaches of the Great South Bay. Hotels, long since gone, supplanted the farms and marine industries that were located along the waterfront. The hordes of summer visitors that discovered early Amityville included stage and theater personalities, prominent members of society including businessmen, artists, writers and the so-called “rich and famous” Manhattanites. Although within the geographical boundaries of the Town of Babylon, residents of the Village enjoy the benefits of a local police force, fire department and public works department. Residents are taxed by the Village for these services and by the Town and County for school taxes and other public services, such as trash removal. The Village is part of the Amityville Public School District. Within the Village boundaries, there are numerous parks and public spaces for all to enjoy. They include: • Village Triangle and Gazebo – on Broadway between Sunrise Highway and Merrick Road • Avon Lake – landscaped area at East and West Lake Drives • Delano Nature Trail – Union Avenue, East of Broadway • Edmund W. Pearsall Park – natural rest area on Bayview Avenue • James A. Caples Memorial Park – Southern end of Bayview Avenue, with a playground, lighted softball fields, boat ramp • Peterkin Park – Oak Street, with playground, pond and footpath • 9/11 Memorial Park – center of the Village on Broadway • Nautical Park – Southeast corner of Merrick Road and Ocean Avenue, waterside park with benches, paths and band-shell • Maxine Postal Memorial Park – Unqua Place on the Great South Bay, in memory of Legislator Maxine Postal, 15th Leg. District • Amityville Beach Complex – Southern end of Bayview Avenue, with concession stand, beach and fishing pier
