Since 2001, the Office of Indigent Defense Services (“IDS”) has overseen legal representation for indigent defendants and others entitled to counsel in North Carolina. Created by an act of the N.C. General Assembly, the organization works daily to make real the Constitution`s right to counsel for those charged with crimes or who face significant deprivations to their liberty. IDS trains, qualifies, and sets performance standards for attorneys, as well as determines the most appropriate and cost-effective methods for delivering legal defense services in each of the state`s judicial districts. It is committed to recruiting North Carolina`s most talented attorneys to represent indigent defendants and to providing those attorneys with the resources they need to be effective. IDS works diligently to anticipate and resolve systemic issues that impact defenders and their clients. For two decades, it has distinguished itself nationally as a leader in the development of innovative, high quality, cost-effective, and accountable indigent defense programs. Many states, including Georgia, Texas and Virginia, have looked to IDS`s example and establishing act for guidance in improving their own defense systems. The organization`s programmatic work includes efforts to increase communication and resource-sharing with the private bar; the development of legal training programs, often in partnership with the UNC School of Government; the establishment of a specialized Office of the Juvenile Defender; and the creation of performance guidelines for appointed counsel across a number of practice areas. IDS also works regularly with the Offices of the Capital Defender and Appellate Defender to recruit and evaluate attorneys for their respective rosters, ensure their appointments in a timely and equitable manner, and to support them with expert services. The Alcoholic Beverage Control Division has as its mission, such duties and assignments as have been given to it by the Arkansas General Assembly over the years. Those powers and duties can be briefly described as being the regulation, supervision and control of the manufacture, distribution and sale of all alcoholic beverages and the issuance of permits, and the regulation thereof, in pursuit of those duties and powers. The Alcoholic Beverage Control Administration Division receives applications, processes those applications and, depending upon whether the qualifications are met as established by law and by regulation, the permit may be issued to the applicant. In summary, the mission of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Division is to exercise supervision and control over a system which allows for the legal distribution of alcoholic beverage products in the State of Arkansas. The mission of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Enforcement Division is to enforce all Arkansas Code Annotated Laws of the State Control Act, cigarette, sales, Rules and Regulations adopted by the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, and the training and assistance for all law enforcement agencies as well as other organizations regarding alcoholic beverages. In addition to enforcement, the Alcoholic Beverage Control Enforcement Division conducts investigations of those persons, businesses and organizations who apply for licenses under the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act. The Alcoholic Beverage Control agents conduct inspections and report on permit applications in addition to the investigations of violations and apprehensions of violators. The agents also answer complaints and perform other special assignments; such as food stamp fraud when used to purchase alcoholic beverages. All Alcoholic Beverage Control Enforcement agents must be certified law enforcement officers.
The Hamilton County Sheriff`s Office (HCSO) was created on October 25, 1819 when the County of Hamilton was established. With a population of over 336,000, Hamilton is the fourth-most populous county in Tennessee. Our county was named for Alexander Hamilton, the first Secretary of the Treasury. As the 4th largest Sheriff`s Office in Tennessee, our operations include approximately 183 certified deputies, 161 sworn deputies, and 90 civilian staff personnel. In addition to our traditional patrol and corrections operations, our agency boasts numerous specialty divisions and units to include, but certainly not limited to SWAT, K-9, Hostage Negotiation, Unmanned Aerial Systems (Drones), Marine Patrol, Forensic Divers, Criminal Investigations, CBRNE, Forensics, Honor Guard, Fleet Management, School Resource Officers, Traffic, Public Relations, and Property and Evidence. Each year, HCSO personnel respond to thousands of calls for service throughout Hamilton County. Each day our personnel, both certified and civilian work diligently with our law enforcement partners throughout the region to ensure our citizens and visitors receive the highest quality law enforcement services possible. For two hundred years the men and women of the Hamilton County Sheriff`s Office have provided consistent law enforcement operations throughout Hamilton County. From a bygone era of mounted deputies on horseback crisscrossing wagon trails to the use of modern technology and state-of-the-art vehicles, our deputies continue to honor our agency`s rich history and uphold the legacy and traditions of those who have proudly served before us.
